Although you can obtain some extremely tasty products from your local pizza restaurant, the recipes such outlets use tend to conform to the tried-and-tested classics. Margarita, four seasonings and Hawaiian pizzas are ever popular—and rightly so! However, if you are hosting a party or a special event, then you should consider some of the more 'far out' pizza toppings which are just waiting to be tried. These ideas may sound a little crazy when you first hear them but they will make for a great talking point and are more delicious than you might, at first, imagine. Don't be afraid to try something a little crazy and to experiment with your toppings a little. Ask your nearest pizzeria for their crazy ideas, too.
High-Class Pizza
A high-class pizza has a topping of only the most expensive ingredients. Avoid using any cheese or tomato and cover your base in a layer of finest virgin olive oil. Then lay on asparagus and artichoke hearts which will bake in the oven in a five minutes. Once the pizza comes out of the oven, spoon on some generous helpings of caviar.
Tuna and Chilli
You might not think that tuna and chilli are very good in combination with one another, but they make for excellent bedfellows when it comes to pizzas. If you want to add an extra flavour or two to the mix, then sweetcorn or olives are the perfect way forward. You don't need fresh ingredients. Tinned tuna and freeze-dried chilli flakes work just as well.
Sweet Tooth Pizza
Don't think that sweet pizzas are viable? If so, then why do so many people add pineapple to theirs? This sort of pizza could even make a dessert. Crush nuts, such as walnuts or hazelnuts, in a plastic bag and then sprinkle them all over the base. They will toast nicely in the oven. Now drizzle over some runny honey in a zig-zag pattern for a truly sweet treat before serving.
Egg and Bacon
Usually reserved for breakfast, egg and bacon is a more conventional pizza topping that you might think. After all, lardons and cooked ham are often used for pizzas, so why not rashers of bacon? Eggs frequently feature in pizza toppings, too. Just crack one into a cup and pour it into the centre of the base before cooking.
Curried Pizza
A favourite in the UK, combining Indian cuisine with Italian, curried pizza is surprisingly effective. Opt for a mild curry spice, such as rogan josh. Marinate diced chicken and a chopped pepper overnight in curry sauce before baking it in the oven on your pizza bases. Few pizza toppings offer such as memorable dining experience!
